What brought you to CrossFit Apogee?
My husband was a coach and I got to a point in my life where I knew I needed to do something for myself. As a Mother of three children, all born within a four year span, I knew that being overweight and unhealthy I wouldn’t be able to be there for my children the way I wanted to be.
What was your first impression?
I was definitely overwhelmed watching the seasoned athletes at the box during wods. The team mentality is what I really enjoyed. Being able to workout with other people and have them push me during the wod got me excited to come back for more. I also loved having a coach…it beat going to a traditional gym where I was left to figure it out alone. The coaches led me in the right direction and helped me build my confidence up with more complicated movements and wods.
What was your first Bright Spot (or something you were happy you finally did)? There have been so many that it’s hard to narrow down. I’d say just finding my own rhythm at Apogee. The night I hit an 8 minute 2k row I was thrilled and then there was the day I got my first 3 Double Unders in succession…I pretty much threw my rope down and did a happy dance! I can’t forget reaching that deadlift 225 lbs. that I had been working on for what seemed like months! The bright spots seem to happen more and more now that I feel confident in what I’m doing!
What are you working on now? I’m dealing with learning how to modify my wods and lifting while living with a knee injury. It’s been frustrating but having people around me that want to see me succeed has helped me tremendously. Sometimes the biggest hurdle isn’t a specific lift or movement but rather a mental block we put up and I’ve definitely realized that these past few months.
What is your favorite Apogee memory? Again, I really can’t narrow it down to one. I would say some of the people I have met that have made Apogee feel like a family. I’ve really loved watching people get a PR or doing something for the first time that they have worked so hard for. When that happens the overall excitement leaves you with an awesome high! I genuinely look forward to coming to workout every day…I never know what may happen when I walk into the box but I know when I leave for the night I’ll have a smile on my face!
