What brought you to CrossFit Apogee?
I joined kick-boxing with a co-worker, which I found to be really fun, but it was only a few days a week and I wanted to challenge myself more. I knew a few people who belonged to various boxes across the country, and I had been curious about Crossfit for awhile. After driving by Crossfit Apogee, I decided to stop in and see what it was all about.
What was your first impression?
I got my kick-boxing buddy to agree to the free 8am intro class one Saturday morning. We were both a little intimidated, but we made it through the intro class. We talked about how we were sore the next day. After that, I knew Crossfit was what I was looking for, so signed up and got started.
What was your first Bright Spot (or something you were happy you finally did)?
This wasn’t very long ago and I still haven’t been able to do it consistently , but I was pretty excited when I did my first double under! Even as a kid, I knew jump rope wasn’t my strong suit. I never did master double dutch or any fancy tricks at the school jump-athon. So when I did my first double under at the box, it was so unexpected that the jump rope came around and hit me in the head. I didn’t mind though, I was so surprised and happy that I finally did it!
What changes have you noticed in yourself since you joined the Apogee Family?
One major change is that I actually like working out! Before Crossfit, I had never really lifted weights. Most of my life, working out meant jumping on the elliptical or treadmill at the gym, which I never found to be very fun. With Crossfit, I am slowing getting a little better at running, but my strength, and the part I enjoy most, is lifting. Its always exciting to hit a new PR! I also love the fact that the WOD’s are different each day, which keeps it interesting. Lastly, the best part of all is the comradery with all the friends I have made at Apogee. Its a really positive environment filled with challenges, encouragement, and healthy competition.
What is your favorite Apogee memory?
There are so many to choose from. One great memory is the 2016 Liftoberfest. At the time, I was a little hesitant to join because I hadn’t participated in any Crossfit events or competitions outside of the normal daily WOD’s. I decided to give it a try and see how I did. I must have had some adrenaline going that day because I hit a PR on all three lifts in the event! A big part of it was encouragement from the coaches and other members. When all the scores were tallied up, it was announced that I won the award for highest total weight lifted by a female! I couldn’t believe it! I know this won’t be the outcome of every event, but it’s definitely a great memory and I look forward to participating in more events like this in the future!
