What brought you to Apogee? My daughter Julianne has been involved with CrossFit for years and she loves it. She was home visiting and noticed that CrossFit Apogee had opened so she went to try it out. She raved about how nice and helpful everyone was and that I should try it out. I had my doubts. I thought CrossFit was just for super athletes, way younger than me, but I decided to give it a try. I thought it was something Julianne and I could do together when she came home to visit.
What was your first impression? I wasn’t sure that it was for me. I had not worked out on a regular basis for years. I was terrible at everything because I was so out of shape but I figured I’d just start out slow and work my way up. The staff and other members were so supportive and that gave me incentive to continue.
What was your first bright spot? My first double-under!
What changes have you noticed in yourself? I’m definitely stronger. Two years ago I could barely complete a workout using two-pound weights (in a different fitness program). Last week I dead-lifted 85 pounds! It’s far beyond what I thought I could ever accomplish and I’m really proud of that.
What was your favorite Apogee memory? I don’t think I have one favorite memory but rather a collection of memories. Memories of working out with great people and making lots of new friends over the last 18 months
